#tinalikes ads: Tic Tac uses Augmented Reality

I’m always on the look out for great use of augmented reality.  The most recent attempt by Starbucks was cute, but wasn’t too impressive.  Today, Tic Tac joins the coffee maker and released its new AR campaign.

The “Shake it up” campaign centres around a mobile app that extends viewers’ billboard and print ad experience.  The great aspect about this campaign is that every ad produces different effects on the app.   This includes many games and pop out messages by characters in the ads.  And from the video, the games actually look pretty intriguing and fun.

#tinalikes inspiration: You and your goal
I was chatting with a friend about aspirations today and he mentioned this quote to me.  Sometimes, we make up excuse as to why we can’t do certain things or we don’t have time for them or they’re just not feasible.  Are those just bullshit?
Next time, when you’re about to say “I can’t”, think again.

#tinalikes Asia: Hello Kitty Aircraft!!
I know breading cats is fun, but how about cat on a plane?  This time, it’s not any other cat.  It’s HELLO KITTY!!!  Taiwan’s EVA Air recently launched three Hello-Kitty aircraft.  From the exterior to interior, the plane is filled with Hello Kitty and I need to get on it NOW.  Check here for more pics!

#tinalikes stunts: Jack In The Box’s Bacon Milkshake

Jack In The Box is is launching its grossest publicity stunt ever: Bacon Milkshake.  The milkshake is part of its “Mary Bacon”  campaign that appeals to bacon lovers (duh).  And apparently vegetarians can also drink this milkshake because its made out of “Torani bacon-flavored syrup” and not bacon…

Is this real life???  Jack in the Box says the milkshake is a limited-time offer and also a secret item that customers have to “whisper while ordering”.

Regardless of how disgusting this is and whether they actually sell any 1000 calories milkshake, I think it’s a great publicity stunt and will definitely generate awareness for the campaign.

#tinalikes memes: BU memes

Remember Rate BU and Like a Little?  After the recent hype of Sh*t nobody says at BU, there seems to be a new meme lurking around on Comm Ave: BU memes.  It’s spreading like wildfire and filling up my newsfeed:

One of the greatest aspects about BU memes is that it sits right on facebook so we don’t have to access another platform to view the “site”.  BU meme takes advantage of Facebook’s social graph, so when someone comment or like a photo on the fanpage, it immediately shows on their network’s stream.  Rate BU and Like a Little were trendy for a second, but the hype just died off because people arn’t that bothered to go on an external site everyday to see who thinks they’re hot (…or am i wrong?).  Looks like BU memes is here to stay…for now.

Here’s a meme on meme:

Now let’s look at Harvard and BC’s attempt to copy BU memes.  A for effort!

#tinalikes apps: Starbucks’ Valentine’s Day AR App

After their Christmas’ Cup Magic app,  Starbucks strikes again with a new Augmented Reality app.  If you scan the cup with your phone, the app will display heart shaped petals flying off the cup.  You can even send an message of the scene via Facebook or email.

As much as the “ooh cool..” factor in augmented reality apps, I haven’t really seen them being used in constructive manners.  Having dancing skaters and petels all over your screen might be flashy, but what does it add to the brand?  Also, when the Cup Magic app came out in Christmas, I’ve asked employees in Starbucks about it and noone seemed to know that it existed… However, Starbucks’ open mind and exploration in mobile technology is commendable and I look forward to their next mobile creation.

#tinalikes music: Pentatonix

If you didn’t know this already, I’m a HUGE a cappella fan and am always stalking a cappella videos.  I usually try to keep my a cappella fanatics off this blog, but I’m making an exception.
There’s been many covers of Gotye’s popular song “Somebody that I used to know” circling the web.  Honestly, I never liked that song (uh it’s a little too hipster for my taste) …But Pentatonix’s (the winner of Sing Off Season 3) cover of it just changed my mind.  Check it:

#tinalikes social media: platforms explained

This instagram photo has been floating around in the social sphere in the past few days.  It does a pretty gd/witty job explaining the different platforms.

Does anyone know where this picture originated?
